About VCU University

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is a premier urban, public research university focused on academic success. As one of the top research universities in the U.S. and Top 100 Global Universities, VCU welcomes international students and values the global perspective and cultural diversity they bring to an already vibrant campus. VCU’s location - smack in the middle of Virginia’s capital city - allows our student to draw on every facet of the metropolitan environment to sculpt their VCU experience. Combining the amenities of a major metropolitan area with the charm and convenience of a small historic city, Richmond provides an engaging backdrop for work, play and study.

Work While You Study

Students may apply up to work for 20 hours per week on campus while studying. This is optional to students and subject to availability of positions for work on campus. During the first semester in VCU, International students are generally encouraged to focus on studies and not take up on-campus job as transition into new education system could be challenging. However, students may opt to work on campus during the second semester. The very top students with excellent academic record and superior communication skills are usually invited to apply for a limited number of Graduate Assitanceship positions. Others may have to consider non-academic positions.
